Calshot Castle
Calshot SO4 1BR
Overlooking the shipping highway of Southampton Water, Calshot Castle is an atmospheric moated tower built by Henry VIII as part of his chain of sea defences in 1539. Since then it has served various functions and now forms part of the neighbouring Calshot Activity Centre. There are great views from its roof, and you should take time, too, to explore the neighbouring beach, whose colourful beach huts are – somewhat surprisingly – some of the priciest in the country.
