Lyndhurst
Lyndhurst, Hampshire, SO43 7NY
Though somewhat blighted by through traffic, Lyndhurst is an attractive town that lays claim to being the capital of the New Forest and is home to the main New Forest Visitor Centre. The parish church, Saint Michael’s, is famed for having the grave of local girl Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, and as well as having some good shops, pubs and restaurants, the town is also on the doorstep of some invigorating local walks. If you coincide with any snow, the Bolton’s Bench hillock just east of town makes the best sledging spot in the Forest.
