Colwell Bay
Colwell Bay, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight
With just two beach shops and one little café, Colwell Bay is the quintessential British seaside resort – in miniature. Typical of this side of the Isle of Wight, the handful of beach huts are indicative of the undeveloped charm that you won’t find on the crowded south-east coast of the island. Regardless, the bay rates consistently highly for water quality and flies the Seaside Award flag first awarded in 1996. The sandy beach, popular in summer with locals but never too crowded, stretches in a sweeping arc for about three-quarters of a mile, and there are fine views to the north-west across the Solent to Hurst Castle and Lymington.
