Fort Victoria Country Park
Westhill Lane Norton Yarmouth PO41 0RR
With free parking and a clutch of small, well-run attractions, Fort Victoria is an excellent destination, especially for young families. There are lovely sea views from the vantage point of the fort itself, which is completely free to explore, and the surrounding 50 acres of country park offer plenty of scope for seashore and woodland walks. With a marine aquarium, a model railway, a planetarium and an underwater archaeology centre all neatly contained within the casemates of the 1850s walls there’s plenty to do if you don’t mind spending a little money. Café Verdi, tucked into one of the many arches, does decent snacks and drinks. While the long, narrow beach has precious little sand, it’s great for beachcombing, although for a proper sandy, swimming beach, you’d do better to walk south through the park for a mile to Colwell Bay.
