Freshwater Bay
Freshwater Bay, Freshwater
Freshwater Bay is a small sand and shingle cove on the southern side of the island’s western tip. Quiet and less frantic than the east coast mini Blackpools of Sandown and Shanklin, the fabulous rock pools at each end are a major kids’ attraction at low tide. Its still an area used for locals launching boats when the weather is more settled and its nice place to wander throughout the year. The locally popular Sandpiper’s Hotel is bang in the middle of the beach, and there’s a handy car park just across the road. This is also a good place to start a walk along to the western tip of the island, a lovely place to watch the sunset before heading back in the dusk light.
