Whitby's oldest bakery and tearoom (since 1865) offers a truly old-fashioned slice of life, with a whole world of cakes, scones, biscuits and pies. Botham's specialities include plum bread, Whitby gingerbread, and the rich Yorkshire ‘brack’ (a fruit loaf), and it's all available to take away from the downstairs bakery too, whose window is always a sweet treat. The tea room also does big Yorkshire breakfasts, hot lunches and afternoon teas.
