Tucked away up an alley and within a pretty, shaded Church Street courtyard is this romantic haven of loveliness. Five gorgeous rooms and one attic suite range around a gallery that opens directly on to the courtyard. Furnishings and decor are thrift-shop chic – an old sea captain's bed here, an antique mirror there – and rooms are full of pretty things that the family has collected over the years, from embroidered cushions to dangly decorations. The suite, known as the Dove Loft, gives you more space and rooftop views, not to mention a rather handsome Moroccan bed and an open-plan bathroom with slipper bath. The price is room-only, but the adjacent Sanders Yard café serves breakfast. There's usually a two-night minimum stay once you get into school and summer holidays.
