There are many reasons to stay at Whitby Log Cabins. One is the fact you can leave the car at home and arrive by public transport (there's a station less than a mile away), or take the train to York and travel across the North York Moors on Britain’s 'Most Scenic Bus Route', the 840 Coastliner to Whitby. It's the perfect location for walkers and cyclists too, with Whitby a 40-minute walk in one direction and Robin Hood’s Bay a couple of hours in the other by way of the Cinder Track, a former railway line that’s been repurposed into a traffic-free route.

However you decide to travel, Whitby Log Cabins is an undeniably wonderful place to arrive. Made up of three luxury log cabins, dotted amid four acres of enchanting woodland, it's an adults-only site, and a perfect spot for romantically entwined couples or groups of friends looking to hunker down and get up close to nature without roughing it. Each of the cabins comes with wood-burning stoves, kitchenettes, central heating and beds and sofas; linen is provided, as are all other essentials, including towels, kitchen equipment and fire pits or chimeneas for outside – there's even a thoughtful welcome pack containing all the essentials you need to get you started.

Close by a stream and waterfall, Valley View was the first cabin here: with one bedroom, a luxury bathroom, an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, and a large terrace, it's perfect for a couple or two friends, as is the appropriately named Treetops, which is a cosy one-room studio with an en-suite bathroom. The Hideaway is the latest addition – overlooking the woods and nearby fields, it's ideal for two people but with a bit more space. It comes with a large bedroom and living area, a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and air fryer, en-suite bathroom facilities (including a slipper bath in the bedroom) and two terraces to make the most of the morning and evening sun. There's a barbecue as well as a chimenea for al fresco meals amid total peace and sylvan seclusion.

The site itself is brimming with character and unique features – it has its own eco-reservoir and waterfall, an organic vegetable garden, and an array of rescue animals roaming the grounds. Owners Lorraine and Mark are evangelists for the local area, with lots of advice and knowledge on where to spot wildlife, including woodland birds and deer, and where to visit beyond the site. They also run occasional yoga and wellness retreats in their nearby studio.

It's a hard place to leave, for sure, but a visit to Whitby is essential. Just a short drive away or slightly longer on foot (part of which is on a woodland path that can get a bit muddy in wet weather), this coastal icon features a legendary and spectacularly sited Gothic abbey, a sandy beach, world-famous fish and chips and a quaint old centre full of alleyways and cobbled streets. In the opposite direction, you might also consider checking out Robin Hood’s Bay, a fishing village whose steep streets are awash with tales of smugglers, while the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park is nearby too. All in all, you couldn't wish for a more tranquil or better located place to stay on the North Yorkshire Coast.

Facilities

Each of our three cabins is bespoke, with central heating, ensuite bathroom, cooking facilities including a microwave and a gas burner, TV and DVD players, and everything you need for a self catering stay. The terraces all have log burners or chimneas.

Valley View is our original luxury cabin, with a large terrace, sited near the stream and waterfall, perfect for a couple or two friends travelling together. It has a separate bedroom, luxury bathroom, kitchen, dining and sitting areas.

The Hideaway is our new luxury option. Sitting on the edge of the woodland with views to both the woods and the meadow, and two terraces to catch both the morning and evening sun. It is a spacious cabin with a large bedroom, opening onto a balcony featuring a slipper bath in front of the log burner. There is are sitting and dining areas, a small kitchenette and a state of the art Barbecue grill.

Treetops, is a cosy studio, or woodland room, that offers a luxury glamping experience at the top of the woodland. It does not have a bath but the shower is powerful. There is a gas fired barbecue grill with side burner on the porch.

We provide the essentials including bed linen, towels, kettle, toast hair dryer, basic toiletries, kitchen equipment, cutlery, washing up liquid and cleaning equipment  and a small welcome pack.

Our guests particularly enjoy the seclusion of the cabins where the only sights and sounds are those of the nature all around and we leave you to enjoy your retreat undisturbed. But,you are also welcome to explore the wider site including our eco-reservoir and waterfall, organic vegetable garden, and menagerie of rescue animals.

Suitable For

We are an adult only site ideal for couples, pairs of friends or single travellers. We don't accept dogs to protect the wildlife.

Nearby

Our unique site is less than two miles from Whitby centre, in the North York Moors National Park, at the end of a single track road. Most of our guests enjoy the 40 minute walk through the nearby woodland and along the Cinder Track into Whitby centre. Keen walkers undertake the 10 mile circuit to Robin Hoods Bay, taking in the cliff path with its stunning views.

Whitby itself boasts cobbled streets and wide sandy beaches.  The Abbey of Dracula fame stands proud above the town, approached by the 99 steps. Robin Hoods Bay is a picturesque fishing (and smuggling) village, with cottages nestled into the cliffs, on the heritage coast. The North York Moors Steam railway runs through the National Park, taking in some quaint villages including Goatland with the the celebrity station which became Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film and featured as Aidensfield in the ITV programme Heartbeat.

Or you can simply relax on site and be restored by the power of nature. Our site is a wildlife haven, with deer, badgers and owls regularly seen by guests and an abudance of birdlife.   For many guests, the evenings spent on the terrace watching the flames of the chiminea and listening to the owls are the highlight of the stay.

Food & Drink

The Bridge Inn in Ruswarp is just over a mile down the road. Or for a special night out the newly opened Waterside at Chainbridge borders the River Esk. In summer months many guests walk through the woods to The Windmill at Stainsacre.

Whitby is of course famous for fish and chips with some first class offerings. For eating in, the Magpie is always popular as is Abbey Wharf. Trenchers, Mister Chips and Hadleys have won many awards. Locals vote for Silver Street fisheries.

As vegetarians we love Sanders Yard (has options for carnivores too) and Mr Coopers Coffee Shop. They are both good for coffee and cake too.

Unique to the North Yorkshire coast is the Lemon Top. A Mr Whippy ice cream with whipped lemon sorbet. Sandside Bar in Church Street serves the best in town.
