This is Whitby's other top-class fish-and-chip restaurant – and you might have to come here anyway if the queues at the Magpie are too off-putting. Some prefer the bright and breezy, family-friendly, diner-style Trenchers in any case, and in the magnificent deep-fried halibut the restaurant has its own great signature dish. Otherwise it's haddock, cod, skate, plaice, salmon or Whitby scampi, and we've always liked the stonking seafood salad if deep-frying just isn't doing it for you. A takeaway counter now does the honours too, so there's no excuse for putting up with sub-standard fish and chips from elsewhere.
