Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop
226 High St Aldeburgh IP15 5DJ
There's always a queue at this renowned Aldeburgh chippy, and no wonder: the fish is fresh and fried in the lightest of batter while the chips are crisp and hot and to die for, fried in beef dripping just as they should be; indeed no less than the Guardian and Times have referred to this place as just maybe 'the best fish and chip shop in the world' – quite a claim. Now, queueing at this chippy as much a part of the Aldeburgh experience as eating your chips on the sea wall, but if you hate to stand in a line you should know that there’s a webcam perpetually trained on the queue if you want to pick the best moment to go. Or you can visit their sister business down the other end of the high street, the Golden Galleon, where the queues tend to be a teensy bit shorter, and there's a restaurant upstairs – the Upper Deck – where you can sit down to enjoy a properly civilised fish supper..
