Temple Newsam
Temple Newsam Road, Off Selby Road, Leeds LS15 0AE
This grand Tudor-Jacobean country house, set within some splendid parkland on the edge of the city, is where the city council chooses to show off much of the fine art and decorative art it owns. This means lovely displays of silver, gold, furniture, ceramics and textiles, often with special exhibitions that tell a particular story or highlight an historic period. Outside, there are wonderful walks in the Capability Brown-designed grounds, as well as a working rare-breeds farm with regular demo days and craft sessions. Incidentally, Temple Newsam is also a place to catch big-name summer concerts.
