There's something special about the nooks and crannies of inland Suffolk. This is England at its most gently rural, and it's almost impossible not to relax among the county's low hills and sweeping meadows, much of which feels far from anywhere. We believe we've found the perfect spot from which to enjoy it: Blyth Rise Stays, whose luxury lodges and Igluhuts sit within ten acres of landscaped grounds and gardens, on the edge of the pretty village of Laxfield. It's a peaceful and bucolic spot, close to the source of the River Blyth, which flows down to meet the sea at Southwold, yet it is just just under two hours from London.

Pam and Mark Grinsted and their daughter Katie have made the most of the family land during their retirement from the fruit farming industry, turning it into one of inland Suffolk's most sensational places to stay by planting trees, shrubs and wildflowers and installing accommodation that makes the most of being right in the middle of the countryside. There are six self-catering lakeside lodges, each sleeping up to 4 people, and six open-plan 'Igluhuts' (sleeping 2), all set amongst idyllic surroundings.  The lodges each have two king-sized bedrooms each with their own en-suite shower rooms, an open-plan living area, and fitted kitchen with oven, hob, dishwasher and pretty much everything else you might need. The Igluhuts are slightly smaller – sleeping two people in stylish comfort in one living area with seating and a double bed, separate bathroom and a small but well equipped kitchen area. Two years in the making, the time and effort put into the site shines through in every detail, not just in the gorgeousness of this re-wilded location, where they have planted thousands of trees and dug out their own lake, but in the decor and facilities too, which are top-notch, with high-quality bed linen, bathroom toiletries, bluetooth speakers and books and games for rainy days. Each accommodation has its own private terrace, firepit and BBQ, with outside seating (blankets are provided for cool evenings), and there are two saunas, each one accommodating six people, so you can feel properly pampered. Look out also for the wildlife that might come near, whether it's a hungry heron or the families of ducks that return year after year. You can order supplies to delivered for your arrival, or there's a very well-stocked honesty job by the gate which has all manner of wonderful produce from local supplies – eg fab pizzas from Norwich's Brick pizza, cheese and butter from near by Fen Farm.

As for the surrounding area, you couldn't be better placed for exploring Suffolk's many appealing corners. There's a village shop and two excellent pubs a short walk away in the village, as well as a wide network of public footpaths to enjoy exploring right from the back gate – those wishing to explore the local countryside can hire bikes/ebikes which can be delivered to your door, or those who prefer to walk can borrow a pair of Hunter wellies. You're also just a fifteen-minute drive from the pleasant towns of Halesworth and Framlingham, both of which are good spots for shopping and eating out, with a decent range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The site is also not far from Southwold and Walberswick on the Suffolk Coast – visit the pub or catch crabs in Walberswick, travel to Southwold on the famous foot ferry, eat seafood in the harbour and then trek across the fields the town's beach and pier: a perfect day. This is a beautiful part of the country and you won't regret a minute of it, especially when you return to your well-appointed lodge! Indeed Blyth Rise Stays is a terrific place to do nothing at all –  want you can even order a spa or beauty treatment in your lodge!

Facilities

Two things we are passionate about are good food and the outdoors. Depending on the season there will always be added extras to choose from, from local produce delivered to your door, to chef-cooked meals and pizza nights. These will all depend on the time of year and more info can be found on our website or when you book.

Suitable For

Our Igluhuts are ideal for couples as they are compact and cosy but without compromising on comfort. With king-size beds, kitchen and separate en-suite shower room they have everything that you need.

The lodges would suit couples, small groups of friends or family. Each have two king-sized bedrooms with en-suite bathroom with rain-head shower, heated floors; the lodges sleep up to four people. They have a light, airy and spacious open-plan kitchen/ dining/ living room with double doors leaving out onto your private terrace.

Nearby

We are not far from the more popular spots on the coast, and pretty market towns such as Framlingham and Halesworth, however the village and local area are still very peaceful, rural and untouched so Laxfield still feels like a traditional Suffolk village.

Food & Drink

The village has two excellent pubs, but if we are going further afield then there is a huge amount on offer. With the famous coastline combined with Suffolk being such an agricultural area we are spoiled for choice with amazing produce and so many excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants it would be unfair to single a 'favourite' out. We love trying new places and there is always something new popping up.

Open

Open all year.

Pricing

Igluhuts start at £425 for a 3-night weekend or 4-night mid-week stay, and £665 for a week stay. Lake Lodges from £595 for a 3-night weekend or 4-night mid-week stay, and £925 for a week stay.

The Owner Says

The ten acres of Blyth Rise Stays, with six Lake Lodges and six Woodland Igluhuts, has been landscaped to evolve in harmony with nature through the seasons. Our guiding ethos is to create spaces that provide a natural, rejuvenating and private retreat from day-to-day life and an opportunity to reconnect with nature in the Suffolk countryside.
The accommodation is well equipped with modern kitchens and bathrooms along with your own firepit and bbq on the private terraces.  We also have two unique wooden Igluhut saunas in the woodland and onsite outdoor yoga classes when the weather allows.
We are a family business and take great pride in everything that we have created as well as in-depth knowledge of the local area to ensure you have everything you need to make the most of your time in Suffolk.  Most of the ground-work, planting and landscaping as well as the whole site design was done ourselves and we look forward to sharing this special place with you.
