Snape Maltings Farmers’ Market
Snape Maltings Near Aldeburgh IP17 1SR
The sound of sizzling sausages, the smell of fresh baking, the quack of ducks on the pond and the smiles of the stall-holders combine to create an irresistibly cheerful and welcoming atmosphere at the monthly Snape Maltings Farmers’ Market. It’s bustling but not so busy that the producers don’t have time to chat. Among them, there’s Susan Adams, who brings her free-range wild boar joints, sausages and bacon from Brampton near Beccles, and gives out slips of paper with recipe ideas, the colourful Bhajiman with his spice kits, Katharine and Jason Salisbury who make rich and creamy farmhouse cheese from the milk of their Guernseys (one of the few cheesemakers in Suffolk), Piers Pool from High House Fruit Farm patiently defending his samples of cloudy apple juice from the wasps, and Karoline Newman, a cheese-straw specialist, offering samples of marmite or pesto-flavoured nibbles.
