The Dairy House

Situated in a secluded location on the Dillington working farm and estate in Somerset, The Dairy House Cottage is a large grade-II-listed stone cottage that's ideal for family get-togethers and friends' reunions. The farm has been in the same family for two centuries, and, with over 3000 acres given over to a dairy and arable farm, woodland and parkland, is beautiful and restful place to stay, with multiple walks through countryside and parkland that you often have almost entirely to yourself.

It's a historic old place, with mullioned windows, oak beams and huge fireplaces. But inside it's as modern and well-equipped as if it was built yesterday, with a sleek open-plan kitchen complete with every possible appliance and an attached dining space in a bright modern extension with floor-to-ceiling windows. The adjacent sitting room has a lovely old fireplace with a wood-burning stove but also  comes with a 55’’ flatscreen Smart TV with a Bluetooth soundbar. There is a further, smaller sitting room and of course good wifi throughout.

There are 7 bedrooms in total, 4 in the main house and 3 more in a converted barn (known as the 'Cowshed') next door. There's a master bedroom with a super-king-size sleigh bed and an en-suite bathroom, two further bedrooms that can be arranged as super-king doubles or twins, one of which is en-suite, and a bunk-bedded room that can accommodate 3 people and shares a bathroom. The Cowshed's 3 guest rooms bedrooms include two zip & link doubles that can also be setup as twins, one of which has an en-suite shower room, and another bunk-bedded room which shares a bathroom.

Outside, the garden is one of the Dairy House's highlights – beautifully planted and well maintained, with a large terrace overlooking curvy flowerbeds and a pristine lawn, fruit trees laden with fruit you can help yourself to, and a less maintained woodland area at the back. Its also has a wood-fired hot-tub and a large play area for entertaining the kids. There's also a great farm shop short walk from the house, so you need never go hungry, and a number of decent pubs within walking distance, for example the Barrington Boar, which has been written up as one of the best 30 places for a pub lunch in the UK. Try also the excellent Lord Poulett Arms, a short drive away, for dinner.
