Enchanting, magical and romantically rustic, the two treehouses at One Acre Wood are straight out of a fairytale but come brimming with practical features for the most comfortable of self-catering stays in Herefordshire. These kid-friendly canopy-level cabins each offer a unique luxury countryside escape for up to six. And it’s fair to say this will be a break you'll never forget. There are spiral staircases, rope walkways, slides, and outdoor baths; all things you may not expect from a holiday home high in the treetops. But there are pleasantly surprising modern flourishes too, like double glazing, underfloor heating, a dishwasher and an oven.
You arrive at Fuggle and Bramling after a short walk through the trees of One Acre Wood, led by owners Annie and Sean. They designed these charming handcrafted cabins and are part of the all-round charm themselves. They welcome you, then leave you to enjoy your treehouse in blissful seclusion, but are only ever a WhatsApp away should you need them. Once inside, you’ll be even more wowed by the craftsmanship. Lights dangle from a branch, stairs rise on trunks and the kitchen surface is a wavy-edged slice of a tree.
Both treehouses have an open-plan living space with a log burner, two double bedrooms and a bunk room just for kids – and each has a rainfall shower and a flushing toilet with a door to the copper bathtub outside, plus outdoor decking. Fuggle is probably the one to choose if you have toddlers or guests with reduced mobility, as access is via a ramp. The steps at the entrance of Bramling make it better suited to adults and families with older kids. At a height of four metres above the ground, both offer a stunning lookout over the surrounding countryside.
One Acre Wood is found midway between Worcester and Hereford, with Bromyard and Ledbury to the north and south respectively. All are worthy places for a visit, but so too are the more rural treasures nearby. You’re on the edge of the village of Bishop’s Frome, which is home to a couple of pubs and a destination garden centre, all within walking distance. A short drive takes you to Hampton Court Castle or Ralph Court Gardens, which with its themed garden rooms is a space the kids will love – though perhaps not quite as much as the space back at your treehouse in One Acre Wood.
