The Snowdonia Forest Holidays resort is perhaps its most intimate and certainly its most tranquil location. There are just 16 cabins dotted through the woods here, tucked away to the degree that this leafy glade can feel like your own secret hideaway, with the Colwyn river wrapping around one side of the site, while on the other you can hop onto one of the steam trains of the Welsh Highland Railway, which whisk you up to Caenearfon or down to Porthmadog through some of the UK's most picturesque mountain scenery.
Above all, it's a perfect place to return to after exploring the wonders and wilds of the Snowdonia National Park, with one, two and three-bedroom cabins that are equipped with everything you need, including hot tubs that are the perfect place to relax after a hard day's hiking before getting cosy in your cabin and watching the stars through the large floor-to-ceiling windows. Some of the cabins are dog-friendly, so the whole family can come, while at the centre of the site, the Forest Retreat and Bakehouse have a café and bar, shop and play area, bikes for hire and the chance to go wildlife-spotting and do some bushcraft activities with Forest Holidays' own Rangers.
For all the excellent Forest Holidays facilities, however, it's the location that really steals the show here. Beddegelert would be a pretty village wherever it was located, but it's in the very heart of the Snowdonia National Park, surrounded by magnificent mountains, rivers and lakes. You can travel from one scenically sited castle to another, hike up Snowdon itself or take the Bleneau-Ffestinog Railway, or make the short trip to the unique fake Italianate village of Portmeirion on the nearby coast.
