'Quirky and comfortable' is what the owners say about Beach House, and we'd have to agree. The curious sea-facing house by tiny Beadnell harbour has just two B&B rooms – a master suite complete with its own turret is the pick of them – and decor and furnishings are firmly Aladdin's Cave vintage in character, from scalloped hand-basins and canopied beds to oak-panelled lounge. Your genial hosts are both big fans of the Northumberland coast, so you'll soon discover what's worth seeing hereabouts. Russ, it turns out, was in Showaddywaddy in the 1970s, though he's all about the local music scene these days and can point you in the right direction for a music night. Dogs are welcome, the beach is just yards away, and there are seals in the habour. All in all, it makes for an interesting night or two, in an unsung part of the world that's full of surprises. Just like Beach Court.
