Situated in Gullane, one of East Lothian's most desirable towns some 20 miles east of Edinburgh, The Bonnie Badger is an award-winning pub and restaurant with rooms in deepest East Lothian. The creation of acclaimed Scottish chef Tom Kitchin and his wife Michaela, it’s the only property in their portfolio of four fine dining destinations with accommodation. It's a foodie getaway, that's well worth leaving the city for, and even more rewarding for a cosy weekend. Situated in one of Scotland’s sunniest escapes – and one of its most seriously underrated outside the country – Gullane is an ideal setting, with big skies, excellent local produce and an escape-the-city vibe. There is golf, walks on the John Muir Way and a slew of coastal villages to explore too.
The Badger has twelve modern and luxurious rooms divided between the main house and two garden cottages, Hazel and Honeysuckle. Double rooms are in the house, while larger Deluxe rooms are spread between the cottages. There's one Superior room in Honeysuckle, while two Deluxe Loft rooms with fantastic views, and the swish Ridge Suite, featuring a chic four-poster bed, free-standing bathtub and separate lounge space, are located in the main house. Each includes king-size or super-king-size beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, bathrobes, slippers, tea and coffee-making facilities, bespoke Scottish toiletries, smart TVs and en-suite showers.
Tom KItchin is one of Scotland's best-known Michelin-star-chefs, so it's no great surprise that the dishes served in the restaurant here are highly creative and based on local Scottish produce, with everything curated around their trademark 'From Nature to Plate' ethos. What's more, there are various ways to dine: choose from the more formal Stables Dining Room with its exposed brickwork and huge, light-giving windows, The Broc Bar, a welcoming bolthole for a whisky cocktail, the relaxed Garden Room where breakfast, brunch and afternoon tea are served, and the Garden – as inviting under a blanket in winter as it is on warm and long summer days.
