The Dwelling House
6 Fore Street Fowey PL23 1AQ
This elegant Georgian former merchant’s building houses a delightful oasis of an Edwardian tearoom, which manages to evoke period style and a traditional tearoom aesthetic without appearing chintzy or twee. The cakes are some of the finest in Fowey, mostly baked in the Rayburn that takes pride of place in the open-plan kitchen, and which you have to shuffle past to get to the sunny courtyard garden. They have 25 varieties of tea, top scones and proper coffee, too. The staff are relaxed and efficient, and the owner Theresa can be found with her spoon in cake mixture, taking orders or brewing up. The tearoom is also an excellent one-room B&B. A gem, but easy to overlook.
