Steamer Point Nature Reserve
Friar's Cliff Dorset BH23 4ED
Hidden away above Avon Beach lies this small wooded nature reserve, named after an old steamer ship that was moored on the coast here in the 1830s. Paths lead up from the coast to the clifftop retreat, home to bats, woodpeckers and various insects. There's a small lake, some great picnic spots and also access to the back of Highcliffe Castle. Through the trees you'll get memorable views across to Christchurch Harbour and the Isle of Wight, or you can take the steep steps down the cliff to the fine beach below.
