Dovedale to Milldale Walk
Dovedale Car Park, Dovedale, Ilam, Ashbourne Derbyshire DE6 2AY
Not all Peak District walks are easy and short, but this one is both, linking the popular gorge of Dovedale with its famous rock formations and stepping stones with the pretty village of Milldale. It's only three miles long so you can do it in a couple of hours or less, following the lush path of the river Dove and crossing the river on its stepping stones to reach the hillock of Thorpe Cloud, where you can enjoy great views from its 287m summit. Milldale is a beautiful stone-built village at the northern end of Dovedale, with a lovely old bridge and a café – Polly's Cottage – but sadly no pub. For that you have to stroll to Watts Russell Arms in the nearby village of Hopedale.
