Just above the tiny Derbyshire village of Alport, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Peak Pods sits amid 460 glorious acres of Broadmeadow Farm, a working beef and sheep farm that's also home to four luxury glamping pods that make for an ideal spot for couples and young families to enjoy this spectacular part of the country. The five-mile walk that starts from here and runs to Lathkill Dale and Monyash is one of the most scenic routes in this picturesque region, and everywhere you look there are routes to be relished and countryside to be enjoyed.

With larch wood exteriors and pine interiors, each of the four units is very comfortable and warm, with wool insulation and central heating to keep you toasty even when the temperature drops. All have a built-in double bed, a sofa bed, a dining table and four chairs, and a well-equipped kitchenette with everything you’ll need to cook up a storm, including a microwave, halogen hob, fridge and toaster. The pods also have electricity and WiFi, including Bluetooth speakers, an en-suite shower room and toilet, and their own outside space with furniture and a barbecue for al fresco cooking.

There's a small stretch of woodland nearby for kids to play in and grown-ups to explore, and you can light the firepit with wood available from owners Mark and Nicola, who are usually on hand for local advice and impromptu farm tours. The village, with its old bridges and 18th-century corn mill, is very pretty. There's no pub, but the next-door village of Youlgreave has three: the George, Bull's Head and Farmyard Inn. You're also brilliantly placed for any number of popular Peak District attractions –the country houses of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth, the waterfalls of Lathkill Dale, nearby Bradford Dale where you can go wild swimming, and of course Bakewell, which is the closest source of supplies, pubs and restaurants, and one of Derbyshire's loveliest small towns.
