Sharnfold Farm, just outside Eastbourne, not only has one of the best farm shops in Sussex (it’s a past finalist in the Sussex Food and Drink Awards, and stocks, among other things, home-baked bread and cakes, cheese from the High Weald Dairy and freshly picked fruit and veg from the farm, alongside an award-winning butchers’ counter), but it’s also one of the best places around for Pick Your Own. This runs from April through to October, and covers not only the usual berry suspects but also veg (onions, broad beans, sweetcorn), rhubarb, currants and more. Sharnfold is especially well set up for children, who, after toiling in the fields getting their fingers (and mouths) sticky, can run about on the farm trail and play area round the back of the farm shop and café.
