The Tack Barn is an environmentally-sound, self-catering bolthole for two that’s as firmly rooted in Sussex as the small woodland that surrounds it. It’s situated a few miles outside Lewes and the South Downs National Park, within easy reach of the villages and vineyards that you’ll want to visit while you’re here. Or perhaps you’ll be here for the opera at Glyndebourne, the art at Charleston Farmhouse or the literary history of Virginia Woolf’s former home. All are within 10 miles – but it’s not just what surrounds this spot that makes it 'Sussex central'. It’s what’s inside too. From the trug that’s left for you to collect garden veg to the mug you’ll drink your tea from, this place is as sustainably Sussex as self-catering can be.
The welcome pack sets that scene: owners Corina and Dominic put it together with eggs from their own chickens, produce from the garden and other local goodies. They’ll let you find it on your own and pop in to see you later. That way, you have the magic of arrival to yourselves as you make your way into your holiday home. It’s only once you step inside that you realise just how lovely the setting is. French doors from each room open to the trees and a pond. Corina helps make your stay run smoothly long before you arrive by providing a list of things to do and places to visit, giving you plenty of time to book a meal at The Ram in Firle or a tour of the Artelium Wine Estate.
Stays are a minimum of three nights, which gives you the chance to explore the area as well as time to appreciate what’s here. As the name suggests, the Tack Barn was once a place for horses, but aside from an exposed beam or two, there’s little to remind you of its former use. It’s a warm and comfortable place to stay that’s generously proportioned for a couple, perhaps with a baby too.
The main living space is open plan: kitchen, lounge and dining room combined, warmed by a log burner and opening onto a wrap-around deck with a covered dining area. The kitchenette, like the bathroom, is modern, and the decor (plain walls, thoughtful lighting and natural materials) is timeless but much of the furniture has history. It's a combination that works. The knives in the kitchen are sharp and the organic cotton sheets on the bed are fresh – just a couple of examples of the care that’s taken with guest experience, not to mention the Tack Barn’s outstanding eco credentials. The water is heated by solar energy, the drainage via a reed bed, and you can charge your electric car. The list goes on and on, so you can not only enjoy your holiday in Sussex but you can do so sustainably, too.

10/10!
Superb! Better than we could have hoped for. Exactly like the photos, if not better. Really thoughtful welcome package and excellently stocked kitchen (so nice to go somewhere with sharp knives and nice mugs!). The comfiest bed, boiling hot powerful shower and gorgeous grounds. Can’t wait to go back - hosts are attentive but not intrusive - 10/10!

Most perfect stay
We just had the most perfect 3 nights staying here. Corina is an exceptional host, we were greeted upon arrival and had fresh bread, eggs, butter, milk and apple juice waiting all of wihich were so delicious. We even went to the bakery before leaving to get more bread to take home.
The barn is so clean and everything is to a high standard; the guide book comes with everything thought out so you can make the most of your stay. You have everything you need to feel completely at home, you will want for nothing. The surroundings are gorgeous and the barn is not far from Lewes town center should you wish to explore. If you don't wish to leave the barn, you are surrounded by stunning views and peaceful surroundings.
We will be back and looking forward to visiting again.

Tack Barn was a fantastic place to explore Sussex. It is as beautiful as the photos and cosy in the winter with the woodburning stove.
Corina was extremely welcoming with helpful tips so that we got the most from our stay. Lovely to have plenty of reference books to dip into and maps of the area for our walks.

Such a gem
I booked the Tack Barn for my husband's birthday and our first trip away with our new baby daughter. It wasn’t miles from home, but was the most wonderful and relaxing retreat. It is such a gem, in a lovely and peaceful setting. The barn was impeccably clean and had everything we needed for a cosy and comfortable stay. Sitting in front of the log burner watching the squirrels in the forest was magical. We explored the town of Lewes and visited the Seven Sisters for a long walk, which was stunning. Corina was a great host and nothing was too much to ask. We’d 1000% recommend! We loved our first weekend away as a family!

Loved!
We really loved our stay at the Tack Barn. The place really reflects who we are and what we love. If you go there, take the time to discover just the place itself with a calming pond, lovely dog Bruno, a vegetable and flower garden, orchard, cute piggies… it’s a dream to just relax there. But don’t get me wrong, lots of things to discover in the area. Host Corina gives perfect information about what to do in the region. Good eating-out addresses, picture-perfect hotspots and also what not to do. Just what we needed to make the most of our limited time there.

10/10 Recommend
We were absolutely enthralled with this little getaway! The place was cozy and took care of our every need: laundry, long tub soaks, a well-stocked kitchen, a whole booklet on the local digs, and even a vegetable garden to enhance our meals 💚. The gardens and orchards were a joy to walk through, especially when there were chickens walking about to befriend. There is a flower garden just to the left of the place and when the afternoon wind blew it carried all the floral scents to the patio where we sat. 10/10 recommended for a peaceful time in nature to slow down & disconnect, we stayed 10 days and it was still a sad moment to leave!

Beautifully appointed with tranquil views
If you like peaceful seclusion with easy access to all the Sussex Weald, the Downs and the coast have to offer, then The Tack Barn is the place to choose. This eco-friendly property is beautifully appointed with tranquil views over a natural Sussex pond. A welcome basket awaits its visitors, but that must remain a surprise! The owner is not only helpful and happy to share a few tips with her guests, but also offers access to her extensive orchard and vegetable garden for fresh fruit and vegetables when in season. Enjoy!

The barn is inspirational
Surprise treat for my husband’s birthday and the Tack Barn did not disappoint. Beautifully decorated with a lovely touch of spring flowers - loved the cowslips in the bathroom.
Corina was very welcoming and enthusiastic and helpful. I don't feel I would have hesitated to ask for anything if there were a problem. The Ram at Fire was excellent after our walk along the Downs. Even when the weather turned yesterday it was a relief to return to the cosy barn and light the woodturner. Can also recommend The Flint Owl Bakery in Lewes, as well as the beautiful church in Berwick. The barn is inspirational in its decor and clean, organic interior. Thank you for a lovely experience, so much to see and do here - sorry to be leaving today.

Wonderful place to stay – hope to return
What a wonderful place to stay. Amazing walks, loved Lewes - especially the Bloomsbury exhibition. Loved my visit to Charleston Farmhouse and the 'David Hockney - Love Life’ exhibition. That sums up our visit - love life! Hope to return.

Would happily stay again
We had an enjoyable stay in Tack Barn which was set in peaceful, rural surroundings. Looking out onto woodland and a pond, it was easy to spend time in comfort watching the stormy clouds through the patio doors. The town of Lewes was only 10 minutes away and had plenty of great independent shops and cafes. We would happily stay there again.

Loved: such a restful place to stay
The Tack Barn is such a restful place to stay, with everything thought of and Corina is a wonderfully welcoming host. We particularly enjoyed sitting cosily in front of the log burner and watching the light outside fade. At another time of year, the outside table and decking in that woodland garden setting would be just perfect. We loved it.

11/10!
Loved every second of our stay. Great local area with plenty of places to eat, shop and explore. The barn itself was very clean and bigger than I expected. Corina was a very welcoming host that had taken every step to ensure we had a well-stocked and comfortable stay.

Calm, peaceful and very comfortable
Such a calm, peaceful and very comfortable place to stay. I particularly loved being able to throw the bedroom french windows to let the morning in. Corina and Dominic were very welcoming, lovely extra touches meant such a lot, beautiful fresh garden flowers in the house, welcome basket of goodies, picking veggies from the garden for dinner and being able to use the EV charger on site took away the angst of searching for chargers. Such a great base from which to explore the wonders of East Sussex. Hope we can return soon.

Very special place to stay
This is a very special place to stay. Not only is the Tack Barn very beautifully decorated with a well-appointed kitchen, and great library of local interests and history, but you are surrounded by all the things that make Sussex so special. Corina, the host, is an amazing resource for local food, art, and wonderful places of interest and natural beauty. I was welcomed with juice from their orchard, flowers from their garden, eggs from their hens, and other delights. I enjoyed eating meals in the covered outdoor space, watching the sun rise over the pond and gardens, and listening to the bird song from the hammock, hung in the little woodland out back. This stay was a delight for the senses.

Fabulous!
The Barn is fabulous and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, together with unexpected touches such as the great selection of books by the bed and in the bureau. Outside the deck provided the perfect spot for early morning yoga and welcoming the sun as it rose over the pond... We've lounged in the hammock under a canopy of leaves and watched the squirrels, we've climbed the tree-house and chatted to the donkeys, and eaten outside as often as we could. This break has enabled us to live in the moment for a while and reset. We feel a little more refreshed and ready to navigate life again!
