The annual New Forest Show is basically a festival dedicated to country life and traditions, and it’s a lot more fascinating and enjoyable than you might expect. There are demonstrations of rural skills, including thatching, beekeeping and carpentry, and exhibits of everything from giant leeks to prize-winning cattle and sheep. You can purchase everything from crafts to clothes and foods, and events include horse and carriage competitions, motorbike stunts, dog-handling and – saving the best till last – pig racing!
