The Regent Centre
51 High Street Christchurch BH23 1AS
This traditional Art Deco cinema and theatre opened in 1931 and is little changed, with ornate flourishes, high ceilings and its own little café in the foyer which doubles as an art gallery for local artists. In addition to mainstream films, it has a varied events programme and puts on plays, dance events and productions by local amateur companies, as well as satellite broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and the National Theatre in London. Be sure to visit for one of their regular rock and pop concerts as well, with tribute acts for bands such as Pink Floyd, Queen and Led Zeppelin as well as a few actual stars of the 60s.
