The Anchor
52 Abbey Street Faversham Kent ME13 7BP
The little town of Faversham is a foodie hotspot in a county that excels in fresh local produce, and this friendly old pub is one of the best places in town to eat well. Tucked away in a quiet spot near the creek, it’s one of the many Shepherd Neame pubs in these parts (the brewery itself is a short distance away), serving all the ales in a gorgeous sixteenth-century bar that’s strewn with dried hops and warmed by a real fire on chilly days. The fabulous food, which you can eat in a simple dining area or in the bar itself, is a real treat – starters range from simple grilled crevettes with parsley, garlic and lemon to potted goose and quince jelly with toast, and you can't go wrong with any of their seafood mains. Even the simple Ploughman's is a cut above, made with tasty Kentish cheeses.
