There are plenty of people who consider staying in a treehouse to be roughing it, but that's not at all the case at the delightfully named Tree House Hideaway, which is perhaps the ultimate romantic experience for two. Perched high in the trees but with every comfort to hand, it's like having your own five-star hotel room but one that just happens to be six metres off the ground amid willows, conifers and fruit trees and made almost entirely out of wood! Situated in a small village in the Kent countryside just outside Canterbury, it makes for a perfect weekend escape for two.

The treehouse is a bespoke structure, made up of two hexagonal pods set on two tree trunks. It has underfloor heating throughout two separate rooms, one with a proper double bed, plus its own kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher and everything else you need, and a bathroom with your own private hot tub. There's a log burner for cosy evenings in, and outside there's a chiminea BBQ for cooking up something delicious al fresco. There's also good WiFi, satellite TV and a DVD player so once here you barely need to go out at all.

If you do decide to explore, there are plenty of walks to be enjoyed in the nearby Blean woods and surrounding countryside and the wonderful Crab & Winkle Way between Whitstable and Canterbury – following an ancient railway line –  passes close by.  There's a pub in the village – the Royal Oak – which does a great Sunday lunch, and you're also just a short drive from the other resorts of the nearby coast – Herne Bay, Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs. Other accommodation on the same site includes The Enchanted Faraway Tree,  The Hobbity Treehouse, A Secret Garden and Honey Tree Lodge.
