The restaurant that arguably kick-started Whitstable’s resurgence, the Whitstable Oyster Company restaurant, often called the Royal Native Oyster Stores or simply the Whitstable Oyster House, has a superb beachfront location and a lovely, airy dining space overlooking the water. Locals complain about its ‘London prices’ and the occasionally overstretched service, but the fresh fish and seafood served here justify its reputation. Best to stick to the simpler dishes. But be warned, there’s nothing at all for anyone who doesn’t eat fish.
