The Smack Inn
34–36 Middle Wall Whitstable CT5 1BJ
A thriving, welcoming locals’ pub with well-kept Shepherd Neame beer, seasonal real ales, Guinness and light continental lagers. It’s pretty tiny, so it can get busy, though there’s a good-sized, laid-back garden at the back. The decor is quirky, there’s an open fire in winter, wi-fi is free and you’ll usually find a couple of dogs roaming around (yours is welcome too). The Smack is very family friendly by day, though kids have to leave in the evening. Wednesday nights alternate between live bands and open-mic sessions, and there are DJs some weekends. They serve basic, inexpensive pub grub too. All in all a good, solid choice.
