Whitstable Castle
Tower Hill Whitstable CT5 2BW
Whitstable Castle was never a real castle, more a castellated family home; nor is it particularly ancient – its oldest parts date from around 1790. But it’s a local landmark, looking spick and span after a £3 million restoration. While the castle is often used for weddings, conventions and private hire, if there is nothing happening you can admire the immaculately refurbished, panelled interior. The main attractions, however, are the ornamental gardens – which will take a few years to reach full maturity – the Orangery Tea Rooms, and the excellent playground for three- to eight-year-olds. The gardens frequently play host to fêtes, markets and the like.
