Winterton-on-Sea
Winterton-on-Sea
Broadland stretches to the coast at a couple of very appealing points – Horsey is one, and the other is the small village of Winterton-on-Sea, which is easily the best seaside village hereabouts, with a great sandy beach (open to dogs year-round) that’s backed by dunes that stretch all the way to Horsey. You’re pretty likely to see seals basking in the waves offshore, and the beach is home to a constantly manned RSPB hut. There’s a (pay) car park and the village has a good chippy and an excellent pub, the Fisherman’s Return. If you're feeling energetic you can do a lovely circular walk north through the dunes and then back across fields and through woodland to the village, emerging by the church – about three hours in all. Otherwise just laze on the beach and spot seals and frolic in the dunes to your heart's content.
