Just ten minutes away from the sea at Happisburgh, Oak Tree Cottages is a small complex of four flint cottages just outside the pretty North Norfolk village of East Ruston. Family-owned and -run, it's an extremely warm and welcoming place in a great position to enjoy both the best of North and East Norfolk. And, best of all, it is extremely dog-friendly, with furry friends welcome in all four cottages and with loads to do nearby for dogs and their owners.
The four holiday cottages are set around an L-shaped courtyard and consist of one 1-bedroom cottage, two 2-bedroom cottages one 3-bedroom cottage. Each one is a brightly restored barn renovated to a very high standard, with beams, quarry-tiled floors and lovely open-plan living areas; all except The Forge have underfloor heating and solar panels and they all have Smart TVs and good wifi. The one-bed option, The Forge, is also their newest, very secluded and perfect for couples looking for a romantic retreat, with a fabulous fitted kitchen, a large living area with wood-burning stove and a bedroom with a king-size bed. The two-bedroom options, Lighthouse and Oak Cottage, are beautiful beamed spaces with a double and a twin bedroom and private walled gardens, while Churchfields Cottage is much the same but with more space and an extra bedroom.
As keen dog lovers, owners Lauren and Chris Risby allow up to 4 dogs in each property (up to 2 in The Forge). There's also a field for dogs to run around in and they're routinely provided with beds, bowls, dog tags, throws for the furniture, towels for muddy paws, plus poo bags, treats and even crates if you need them. It’s a great place to visit with a dog, with country walks all around and terrific sandy beaches at nearby Happisburgh, Sea Palling, Mundesley and Overstrand that are either completely or partially dog friendly. Dogs aside, though, Oak Tree Cottages is just a lovely place to stay – beautifully renovated properties provided with everything you could possible need in a superb Norfolk location, and the welcome couldn't be warmer, with a generous welcome pack for humans as well as dogs. Thoroughly recommended!
