Buck Inn
Malham North Yorkshire BD23 4DA
The no-nonsense, easy-going Buck is the best pub in Malham for the hardcore hiking crowd – or indeed anyone with mud on their boots and a pint in mind . The food's posher (and pricier) over the bridge at the Lister Arms, but at the Buck there's a dedicated walkers' bar where dogs and filthy children are always welcome, and a traditional lounge bar next door. There are a few seats outside, and a heated patio too, while good-value meals do the job after a day in the great outdoors – wild rabbit pie, local bangers and mash, a decent ploughman's and proper steaks. If you're thinking of eating on summer weekends and bank holidays, best book in advance. It's a real ale place too, with Timothy Taylor's always on and a changing roster of other brews.
