Well, this is rather nice – a handsome manor house set in lush grounds on the edge of Settle, one of the most interesting market towns in the Yorkshire Dales. Falcon Manor is a very elegant place, with its leaded windows, baronial staircase and manicured lawns, and a restful weekend or longer stay here would do very well indeed. The classic rooms are done out in an appealing country-chic style, boasting either courtyard or countryside views. A white-painted four-poster here, a raised slipper bath there – there's plenty to like about these rooms, and even the smaller ones have a harmonious feel and all the creature comforts you need, from goose-down duvets to great showers.
If you to make your better half swoon though, pick one of the suites – Rafters (the honeymoon suite) or Turret, both beguilingly large spaces, beautifully appointed, with massive beds, hanging chandeliers and luxurious bathrooms. The Falcon Suite, meanwhile, would make a good family room, and has a small kitchen attached.
The bar and restaurant has elegance stitched right through it too, with a modern, stripped-wood feel and a menu that can best be described as Yorkshire-Mediterranean – tapas nibbles to Yorkshire ham and eggs. It's at its best – or at least its most attractive – when you take advantage of the gorgeous terrace overlooking the grounds, whether that's a champagne afternoon tea or a G&T sundowner. Settle is a short stroll away, with its market square pubs and local walks up the nearby crags and fells. Malham's not far away either, a wild drive over the tops, or take a day trip on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway – you can catch the train right in town after a Yorkshire breakfast that will set you right up for the day.
