The Lighthouse
77 High St Aldeburgh IP15 5AU
A long-standing Aldeburgh favourite, this restaurant serves unpretentious but excellent cooked food all day from morning till night. The vibe is buzzy and vaguely upmarket but very relaxed at the same time, so that coming to eat here feels special enough but not so much that you have to dress up. As for the food, it's beautifully presented and cooked, though the menu plays it fairly safe, with starters like oysters, potted shrimps, scallops and bacons or fig and goat's cheese salad, followed by main courses like fish-and-chips, liver-and-bacon, steaks or seabass fillets. It's the sort of place where you can eat well and get comfy and hang out long into the afternoon or night – too warm and welcoming to leave.
