Salvo’s

A condemned man’s final meal? Surely a pizza from Salvo’s, the Dammone family’s multi-award-winning Italian restaurant out in Headingley. Gordon Ramsay saluted it in a TV show, but locals have known about it for years, and the food is simply terrific, whether you’re coming for a buffalo mozzarella pizza – bubbling and blackened from the wood-fired oven – some spicy Calabrian pasta, or a slab of Roman pork belly. It’s best to reserve, though there are always some walk-in tables available (although you may have to wait at the bar for a while); or consider trying out the family’s excellent deli, the Salumeria, two doors down, which is also open for lunch and dinner.
