Grand Theatre & Opera House
46 New Briggate, Leeds LS1 6NZ
Dating from 1878 – the Victorian heyday of theatre building – the Grand was designed as an upmarket venue for the classier sort of entertainment, from Shakespeare to opera. That’s still largely true, since the theatre is home base for both Opera North and the Northern Ballet, but there’s also a crowd-pleasing programme of more general entertainment, from musicals and magicians to big-name concert acts. Backstage tours go behind the scenes, and we especially love the 'family tours' where you get to dress up and step back in time to 1878.
