Part of the amazing, lake-filled Lower Mill Estate on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. Reid Villa is a stunning waterside property – the ultimate luxury countryside retreat for up to 7 very lucky people. Reached by its own footbridge over a stream, it's the sort of place for fantasy escapes: a unique modernist creation, full of light, with high ceilings, open-plan spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the property's large garden, beyond which stretches the open water of Somerford lagoon.
There's a superb and very spacious sitting room with a wood-burning stove, two large sofas, armchairs and a wall-mounted flatscreen TV, beyond which decking and lawns have lovely views over the water – as does the elegant modern dining room, off which there is a high-end kitchen with a breakfast bar and pretty much everything else you could need. The house's main master bedroom has views of the water and its own en-suite bathroom, while another bedroom also has its own en-suite as well as a private balcony and ensuite. There's a third, good-sized double bedroom and finally a single bedroom and a family bathroom with bath and shower.
Finally there's the location on the Lower MIll Estate, a nature reserve and network of lakes a few miles to the south of Cirencester. The estate has its own spa, 2 heated pools (one indoor, one outdoor), an outdoor 'eco-pool' with water filtered by water lilies, and a sauna, steam room, gym and library. Once you've recharged your batteries you can enjoy the the estate's nature reserve, with no fewer than 8 lakes and 2 rivers and series of footpaths to explore. A former quarry, the estate is home to a range of habitats and wildlife, including waders and waterbirds, and nightingale, woodpeckers and house martins in spring when they arrive to nest in the eaves of the estate's houses. You can spot otters on the lakes and rivers, and even the odd beaver on Flagham Fen.
Lower Mill Estate also has an excellent restaurant, Ballihoo, so you don't even need to leave the estate if you don't want to. But there is plenty on offer nearby if you do. The Baker's Arms pub, in Somerton Keynes, is just a mile away and also does good food and local ales; there's is the Cotswolds Country Park lake and beach, which offers watersports in summer, and you can visit the famous source of the river Thames in nearby Kemble. Cirencester, a short drive away, also offers what passes for urban life ion this part of The Cotswolds. Bear in mind that there are are plenty of other properties on the Lower Mill Estate if you're looking for somewhere smaller. Whatever the size of your party, give it a try – you won't regret it.
