Purpose-built as a hotel at the turn-of-the-century, Mullion Cove looks every inch the Edwardian resort – and in many ways it hasn't changed since the days when visitors travelled here by rail to enjoy the bracing air of the Lizard Peninsula and its glorious coast. Perched on the cliffs above rocky Mullion harbour and cove, it's one of Cornwall's most romantic hotels, a very comfortable, clubby sort of place, with cosy public rooms that are great for lazing around in with your loved one, doing nothing in particular. It's also had a thorough makeover since the old days and offers a proper 21st-century hotel experience, with an excellent restaurant and extremely well-equipped guest rooms. It's dog-friendly too, which given the location, is also very welcome. If you are looking for first-class service as it used to be, yet without a hint of stuffiness, Mullion Cove is the perfect place to unwind.

It's no surprise that the views from the hotel's rooms and public areas are some of the best in Cornwall, up and down the rocky coast of the Lizard peninsula, and within easy reach of the South West Coast Path for further exploration. The rooms vary from Standard (with no sea view) to those with partial and full sea views, but all have comfy Vispring beds, Freeview TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities and well-appointed en-suite bathrooms; and the most expensive 'Premier' rooms have gowns and slippers, mineral water and fruit and homemade cookies. They also have a set of brand-new luxury apartments nearby if you'd rather self-cater. The appropriately named Atlantic View restaurant serves great food, and has two AA rosettes to prove it, with a small changing menu of just three or four choices for each course and lots of fresh fish and seafood plus a superb local cheeseboard; and there's a stylishly old-fashioned bar that serves simpler dishes, sandwiches and burgers, and afternoon tea, which you can enjoy along with yet more stunning sea views,

Mullion Cove has a new eco-spa, positioned on the cliff edge. The innovative build boasts three treatment-rooms, an outdoor wood-fired hot tub, seasonal heated swimming-pool, sun-terrace and lounge area, as well as an indoor hydrotherapy infinity pool, steam-room, sauna and post-treatment relaxation room. There are also any number of recommended walks that you can do from the doorstep of the hotel – for example along the coast to Gunwalloe, or down towards the tip of the peninsula at the National Trust's Lizard Point. You could also visit the Helford river or the Cornish Seal Sanctuary on the other side of the Lizard, or indulge in a spot of surfing or sea-kayaking with one of the local adventure outfits, for example Lizard Adventure. The choice is yours,  safe in the knowledge that you have the comfortable and very cosy environment of the Mullion Cove to come back to at the end of the day.
