The Three pigeons
169 High Street, Guildford, GU1 3AJ
The Three Pigs, as it's locally known, is an atmospheric old pub spread across two floors at the top of Guildford's cobbled High Street, just up from the town's iconic clock. Most of the drinking goes on downstairs, and the serious eating happens at the top of a fabulous spiral staircase upstairs. Sitting in the upper level it can feel as though you're on the bridge of an old tall ship, about to set sail down the High Street… or perhaps that's just the beer talking - there's a good selection of real ales on tap here, alongside a range of usual-suspect lagers and ciders. The food is well above standard pub grub quality, but the prices are reasonable and the service is typically excellent. The pub has been here since the 18th century and there are rumours of ghosts - possibly those of people who tumbled down that awesome spiral staircase after too many real ales...
