Goldbrick House
69 Park Street, Bristol BS1 5PB
Goldbrick House’s relaxed downstairs café-bar is perfect for a stop on the way up steep Park Street when you’re shopping – it has a great English tapas/snack menu for a start – or the ideal choice for a long working lunch – the place has even coined its own verb, ‘Goldbricking’, which their website defines as ‘The evasion of assigned work or duty’. But the best things about this place are the super-stylish and cosy nooks in the upstairs cocktail and Champagne bar. Sure, the drinks can take a long time to arrive – the bartenders all seem to be perfectionists – but whether you’re out in a girlie gaggle or for a secret tryst, the bar has enough hidden corners and groups of seats to suit everyone. Consider eating in the restaurant too; its sleek tables stretch over two floors and offer some of the most flavoursome local cuisine in the city, with great comfort food options at surprisingly reasonable prices. The chowder served in a bread bowl enjoys a handsome reputation, and the terrace is a great place to eat in the summer.
