Statement furniture, chandeliers and mosaic-floored bathrooms give an elegant and exotic edge to the guest rooms at Berwick Lodge, a boutique country house hotel on the outskirts of Bristol that has all the hallmarks of Old England but inside displays the colour and flair of Turkey. Fabric, furnishings and artefacts from Istanbul decorate the guest rooms and complement the building’s original character and features. This marriage of styles from east and west is a reflection of the English-Turkish roots of the hotel’s owners who have spent over a decade creating this luxury retreat.
Each of the 14 rooms at Berwick Lodge has its own character and style; there’s nothing homogenous here. You certainly won’t find another bed like the one in Troya, which was created from the carved wooden pulpit of an old church, with steps leading up to each side and a flatscreen TV rising from the foot of the bed. A number of other rooms have four-poster or sleigh beds and there are roll-top baths and mosaic floors in the most luxurious bathrooms. Whichever room you choose, an en-suite bathroom, TV and tea- and coffee-making facilities come as standard – even though the decoration is anything but.
Downstairs, the hotel’s restaurant, Hattusa, has a similarly sumptuous style, serving up Modern British cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner — not to mention afternoon tea, which can, in good weather, be taken outside in the garden (or in the cosy lounge with an open fire, depending on the season). From parts of the grounds and hotel, you can see all the way to Wales, thanks to the hotel’s location in the far northwest of Bristol. This means it’s easy to reach from the M5 and not far to the M4 crossing over the Severn, and is an ideal base from which to explore this part of the South West. You couldn't get much closer to Bristol's inland surfing lagoon, The Wave, and Bristol city centre isn't far away either. Whether you want to explore the city or escape it, this country-style hotel beyond the suburbs is a very enticing retreat.

Wonderful stay in wonderful Berwick Lodge
We have just returned from a stay in Berwick Lodge ...what a find! ...a beautiful old house refurbished with great thought and comfort...the grounds are amazing and we were lucky to have perfect sunny weather. The food was delicious and the staff were really helpful nothing was too much trouble and our every need was met. The room was lovely with plenty of extras provided but it was very very small... the bathroom was so big!...stylish and beautiful but I would have preferred more room in the actual bedroom. However, this is a minor detail... Plenty of places to sit and chat. We were a family group of cousins, 14 in all, and it was lovely to wander the grounds.. drink coffee in the lounge and chat endlessly. Thank you Berwick Lodge you gave us a perfect experience...

Superb, awesome!
Speechless to explain... Would come again - highly recommended, especially for a family gathering and function. We dropped by from Cornwall to complete our 39th wedding anniversary this year.

Excellent 5-star hotel
An excellent 5-star hotel with friendly, attentive staff in a serene environment. An enjoyable one-night stay at this hotel, which is located at the end of a long, winding drive so it is away from road noise and any neighbouring buildings. The staff were all superb and the dinner was truly excellent.

Highly recommend
Outstanding, unique hotel offering exceptional service, rooms and quality. A charming, sophisticated, country house hotel nestled in the most exquisite grounds. Our room was large and airy and the bathroom was enormous and pristine. The hotel exudes an air of comfort and class. I highly recommend it - streets ahead of any so-called exclusive chain hotel. The staff and service friendly and immaculate.

We will definitely be back
Never felt so welcome in a hotel. The friendliness of the hotel staff was incredible. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and the food was outstanding. The menu is not very big, but that is often a seal of approval from my point of view that the dishes on offer are top-notch. We were also provided with great ideas for excursions in and around Bristol. The surprise trip for my wife on her birthday was such a success. Many thanks to the entire team.

Very special!
A wonderful hotel in every way. Everything about this hotel is excellent. The attention to detail is superb. It is obvious that the couple who restored it have put so much care into making it an unforgettable place to stay. The food is great and varied, beds and bedding top quality and the staff friendly and very welcoming. The rooms are beautiful and furniture classically elegant. The gardens are exquisite. Some areas are formal with stunning statues, fountains and pergolas. Other areas are of natural wildflowers with bee hives. There are also orchards and woodland. It feels as though you are staying at a delightful country house. We loved it so much we stayed there at the beginning and end of our holiday. A memorable place.

Every bit of our stay was perfect
We stayed on the top floor in adjoining rooms with my daughter. Every bit of our stay was perfect. Here are the best bits: The balcony with stunning views; peaceful spacious rooms; comfortable bedding; lovely finishing touches; the immaculate grounds with cute signs; the footpath leading to a walk over the rolling landscape; friendly staff who aren't stuffy; delish food in light and airy restaurant. We love it at Berwick Lodge and will be coming back soon for the Afternoon Tea.

Exceeded expectations
We booked for 3 nights, but after the first night, we were so impressed that we booked an extra night. We stayed in Lykia, a very comfortable Feature room, and this very much enhanced our stay. The service is excellent, and Sarah and her staff could not do enough for us. The Restaurant Manager is very knowledgeable and
helpful. The cuisine is superb. Exceeded expectations, would come again.

Incredibly enjoyable and comfortable stay
Absolutely stunning hotel. I stayed in the Galatia room which has the nicest bathroom I have used for a long time (and I stay in a lot of hotels!). Lovely finishing touches show that the room has been put together with a lot of love and thought, from the large expensive-looking mugs to the extra side curtains to prevent light leaking from the blind. Comfortable bed with good quality bedding and pillows. The products in the bathroom smell divine - I will definitely be finding the brand to buy some of my own. Very happy I have found a new work hotel in this location, can’t wait to come back.

Wow
Well, what can I say... It was a fabulous special birthday treat I will remember, from the moment we drove up the winding drive to the welcome from reception and Sarah the owner what a lovely lady, they all couldn't do enough for us, our room was definitely a wow factor. Kappadokia was the name of the room that lovely Angela helped to choose for me - she chose right, it was beautiful. We had the tasting menu for our evening meal which was delicious and the little bread rolls are to die for - we asked for extra as they were so nice. And the wine flight was very nice and yes I was tipsy at the end. Will come back at a drop of a hat. Thank you all at Berwick Lodge, you're all doing a wonderful job with running this beautiful family business. I'm a great believer in supporting small businesses rather than big chains. Get and book - you will not be disappointed. Michelle x
