After a stroll along the Royal Crescent, a visit to the Jane Austen Centre or a Bridgerton-themed tour, how about retiring to your own Georgian mansion in Bath? A mile south of the city, Bloomfield House is just that – an elegant Grade II-listed building that can be yours for a few days, with the services of a housekeeper included and the option of a chef as well. It’s what you might call self-catering plus. And incredibly stylish, too. A comprehensive but sympathetic renovation has brought this house up-to-date while still honouring its age. As a result, you can gaze through the sash windows of the drawing room before watching a movie in the state-of-the-art cinema room downstairs, or you can pause on a bench in the landscaped grounds before heading for the hot tub.

There are nine bedrooms in Bloomfield House, each with its own bathroom, and it comfortably sleeps up to 16 adults in individually styled double rooms. The best of these are the two master suites on the first floor, each of which has a free-standing stone bath as well as a walk-in shower, a Smart TV or projector, and a walk-in wardrobe or dressing table – not to mention, magnificent views.

This floor is also home to the kids’ bedroom where six can sleep in built-in bunk beds that you’ll wish you had at home. In fact, there’s a lot in this house that you’ll wish you had at home. The elegant furniture and fittings have been carefully chosen, much of it from Soho Home. Contemporary chandeliers and pendant lamps hang from Georgian ceiling roses, modern artworks grace panelled walls. Upstairs and down, the walls are neutrally painted with flourishes of warm and dusky colours, lovely textures and thoughtful lighting throughout too. The bedrooms are carpeted, while downstairs has a dark wood parquet floor that’s warmed by underfloor heating.

If you want it, a continental breakfast can be on the table when you wake up and a daily housekeeping service can spruce the place up too. The service is discreet, and included in the cost, and helps you make the most of your stay by giving you more time to explore the city – which, by the way, is just a 20-minute downhill walk away.

The Owner Says

Bloomfield House has just finished a major renovation and refurbishment, previously run as a B&B we are now running it as a self catering property, but with the benefit of onsite presence in a separate apartment, we will also offer complimentary continental breakfast and daily housekeeping. The house has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard and also features a cinema room as well large landscaped gardens with a garden room and hot tub.

Getting There

From the A36 skirting Bath head south at the Churchill Roundabout by following signs for Radstock and the A367 (Wells Road). After just over half a mile, turn right on to Bloomfield Road. Bloomfield House is on the right after a further 300 metres.
