For some reason, not a lot of people know about this place, although it is perhaps the best-located hotel in the city. Rooms overlook the water with cracking views, and you're a short hobble down the cobbles from the Arnolfini cafe for brunch and the city's best evening entertainment, with waterfront bars and restaurants, Colston Hall and The Old Vic on your doorstep. Indeed it's so well placed that the night-time noise can and does travel a bit, so it's really a hotel for night owls. Inside, rooms are bright and cheery with plenty of natural light along with power showers and flatscreen TVs, tea and coffee makers and nice biscuits, and the hotel hosts the glamorous glass-fronted River Grille restaurant, which has wonderful views of Pero's Bridge and is a great people-watching spot, as well as serving great locally sourced grub that includes retro-but-in-a-good-way dishes. There's also the more relaxed Shore Cafe Bar. Prices are pretty good – parking is free in the car park from 4pm on a Friday (a big plus in this city!) – but breakfast is not included.
