Pendennis Castle
Castle Drive Falmouth TR11 4LP
Facing its sister castle across the water at St Mawes, the grand facade of Pendennis Castle is perched on the headland that divides the bustling docks and Falmouth town from the beaches of Gyllyngvase and Swanpool. In this magnificent fortress built by Henry VIII you can experience the sights and sounds of battle in an interactive exhibition, and stand on the gun deck of one of the last royalist strongholds to fall in the Civil War. Descending through the castle, a set of tunnels bring you out to the big guns and magazine at Half Moon Battery, where guided tours are available (tours also available in the castle). There is also a small tearoom in the courtroom, where homity pies are still made from a Second World War recipe as well as traditional cream tea.
