A twenty-minute ferry hop across the Carrick Roads, Hotel Tresanton looks back to Falmouth from St Mawes on the Roseland Peninsula. Once a yachtsmen's club, this cluster of seafront cottages was taken on by Olga Polizzi in 1997, who transformed it into one of the area's most famous boutique hotels. The seaside sister of the Endsleigh in Devon, it is the epitome of waterside chic: all of the 30 rooms gaze out to views of St Anthony's Lighthouse, and the hotel boasts a plethora of luxuries including a cinema, sun terrace and a private yacht – and, as you might expect, a renowned bar and restaurant that between them deal in deftly-executed cocktails and assiduously sourced British and Italian food (not least a good choice of English wines). The beach right in front of the hotel is perfect for exploring rock pools and crabbing…and maybe even a quick paddle (after all the pleasures of a hot bath are just a hop away). The kitchen will even supply your bait…. tie on the bacon, drop your line in the water and wait…. Indeed for for all its seaside chic, the Tresanton is a great place for a family holiday too, with all sorts of kids' activities, a lovely kids' playroom, and child-listening and babysitting services for parents who want a quiet dinner for two.

Getting There
The hotel is located off Lower Castle Road but the entrance and car park are not located close to each other. If you are arriving by car, just pull in front of the hotel and bring your car keys to reception on the terrace level, and your car and luggage will be taken care of. This service is also available if you are coming for a meal at the restaurant. Regular trains run from London to Truro, from where you can either take a bus direct to St Mawes or a local train onto Falmouth and the ferry from there (be warned, though, that the ferry doesn't run at night).
