The Old Coastguard
The Parade, Mousehole, Penzance, Cornwall, TR19 6PR
The laid-back atmosphere of this revamped seaside hotel in
Mousehole is evident the minute you enter the wood-panelled bar and dining room. Here, seasonal ingredients are precisely cooked – and with Newlyn’s fishing fleet moored just two
miles away, it’s little surprise to see seafood dominating the menu. If your mini diners are bored of the same old pasta options, you'll be pleased to see that mussels and fresh fish are on the children’s menu too. Food aside – and a fantastic wine
list, to boot – the ambience is relaxing, erring on lazy. A weekend coffee can
easily slip into a long lunch, while you watch the water twinkling beyond tropical
gardens and listen to mellow background music. With train tracks and all manner of toys for
the kids, families fit in easily, as do sleeping dogs. But then, with the Inkin
brothers of The Gurnard’s Head now
at the helm of The Old Coastguard, they’ve had a little practise in making the
finer things in life seem easy.
