The Watermill
Lelant Downs Near St Ives Cornwall TR27 6LQ
Once an 18th-century corn mill, The Watermill is still home to a working waterwheel fed by the garden stream. On the Old Coach Road to St Ives, yet surrounded by countryside, in summer it’s the sprawling, mature gardens that attract families to drink and dine here. It is, however,a pub for all seasons, and in winter the log fire warms the cockles of its traditional interior, where you can sink into a sofa or a pull up a pew by the bar. Children and dogs are welcome, and the dining style is very much an affordable, family affair, with decent pub grub (think steak and ale pie, scampi, Sunday roasts and liver and bacon), and kids’ meals for under a fiver. However, if you’re looking for a more formal dining experience, take a seat in the restaurant upstairs for a meal under the beams of the old mill loft.
