Newtown National Nature Reserve & Old Town Hall
Newtown Newport PO30 4PA
Just four miles east of Yarmouth, the hamlet of Newtown lies on the multi-fingered inlets of Newtown Bay. The whole estuary is a nature reserve of mudflats, salt marsh and meadows. From the visitor point opposite the 17th-century Old Town Hall, a gentle mile and a half walk takes you around the village and church and out to the old quay and salt-pan feeder ponds where salt was made until the 1930s. This is a beautiful area, excellent for birdwatching, and one of the quietest spots on the whole Island.
